2005年，亚马逊在投行的一片嘲讽中“大张旗鼓地”改变了 游戏 规则——它推出了Amazon Prime，并提出了“2日免费送达”这个明显不知天高地厚的“提议”。很多年以后，其他零售商才意识到“灾难来临”，开始应对这场来自付费会员体系的浪潮，而亚马逊也在这期间成为北美最大的电商，并跻身全球最大电商市场的行列当中。

在过去的几年中，一些传统零售商也迎头追击，在电商、全渠道等领域投入巨资，希望能挑战Amazon Prime的地位。
